Writ seeking scraping of Jamaat candidates’ nomination filed

DHAKA, Dec 17, 2018 (BSS) – A writ was filed today, pleading to cancel
nominations of candidates from Jamaat-e-Islami in the upcoming general polls.

Tarikat Federation secretary general Syed Rezaul Haque Chandpuri filed
the writ, while the High Court division bench comprising Justice Md Ashfaqul
Islam and Justice Mohammad Ali heard the plea in part.

After holding hearing for 40 minutes, the court adjourned the proceedings
till tomorrow.

“The Election Commission has canceled the registration of Jamaat. Our
main argument point is how can candidates of an unregistered party take part
in eleventh national parliamentary polls,” Barrister Tania Amir, who is
moving the writ before the court, told newsmen.

Jamaat’s registration was canceled following, a writ filed by people
including Chandpuri.
