Stocks open week down as major sectors dip

DHAKA, Dec 17, 2018 (BSS) – Stock markets opened the week downtrend on
Monday as most of the major sectors closed lower while daily transactions
were also declining.

The major losing sectors were jute, IT sector, textile and pharmaceuticals
and chemicals. A total of 173 securities of the large-cap group incurred loss
due to lower activities.

The broader index DSEX of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finished the first
session of the week 33 points down at 5,218.01. The Shariah DSES and the
blue-chip DS30 also followed it the same trend with 5.28 points down at
1,201.51 and with 1.62 points down at 1,842.16.

The daily turnover in value at DSE declined to Taka 314.56 crore from
Thursday’s Taka 499.70 crore and the volume trading shares fell to 8.60 crore
shares from the previous session 12.37 crore shares.

Among the traded 339 issues at DSE, 61 closed higher against 231 gaining
issues.

The top five gaining companies were Sun Life Insurance, ANLIMAYARN,
1STPRIMFMF, Rupali Life and Daffodil Computer.

The major losing securities were Jute Spinning, ISNLTD, MLDYEING, JMISMDL
and KTL.

Square Pharma topped the turnover list followed JMISMDL, UPGDCL, Brac Bank
and ANLIMAYARN.

Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also opened the week down, with its major
CASPI index closing ended over 97.13 points down at 16,028.45. The volume
trading in CSE was 43.03 lakh shares and the trade value was Taka 11.06
crore.
