Victory Day celebrated with due respect in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Dec 17, 2018 (BSS) – The great Victory Day was celebrated in
the district on Sunday in a befitting manner, with due respect and taking
fresh vow to build a happy, prosperous and peaceful Bangladesh.

Marking the day district administration, various cultural organizations,
political parties and educational institutions chalked out the elaborate
programmes.

The day’s programme began with placing wreaths by district
administration, police department, district Muktijodha Sangshad, district AL,
district BNP, Jatiya party and other political parties, district BMA,
educational institutions and socio-cultural organizations at the monument of
the Poura Park of the town in the morning.

The day was heralded with 31 gun salutes at the time of sun rising and
national flag was hoisted atop all public and private buildings just after
sun rise.

Later, an impressive march past by Ansar, VDP, BNCC, scouts, students of
Shishu Paribar, schools and colleges was held at Shah Abdul Hamid Stadium at
8.30 am.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sebastin Rema and superintendent of police (SP)
Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah took salute as the chief guest and special guest
respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Sebastin Rema recalled with profound
respect the greatest Bangalee for all time Father of the Nation Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who proclaimed the independence of Bangladesh.

Responding to the clarion call, people from all walks of life
participated in the War of Liberation and after nine months of bloody war the
nation achieved the ultimate victory of independence on this day in 1971
under the charismatic leadership of Bangabandhu, he also said.

Later, a reception was accorded by the district administration to the
freedom fighters and the members of martyred families on the ground of Shah
Abdul Hamid Stadium at 11.30 am.

The programmes also included children’s drawing and essay writing
competitions on Liberation War organized by Bangladesh Shishu Academy and
documentary film show arranged by District Information Office.

The other programmes included charity football match between district
administration eleven and Gaibandha Pourashabha, arrangement of sports and
games for the women by Mohila Krira Sangstha and holding of blood donation
camp by Shandhani Donor Club.

Apart from this, special prayers were offered in mosques and temples and
improved diets were also served in the hospitals, jail and orphanages.

In the evening, a discussion meeting on building Digital Bangladesh
organized by district administration was held at the auditorium of Zila
Shilpakala Academy (ZSA) of the town.

Later, a cultural function was also held on the occasion. The artistes
of different cultural organizations of the town rendered songs at the
function.
