Victory Day celebrated in Netrakona

NETRAKONA, Dec 16, 2018 (BSS)-The 48th Victory Day was celebrated here today with paying glowing tributes to the memories of the heroic sons of the soil who laid down their lives to free the country from the occupation of the then Pakistani armed forces and achieve independence.

Netrakona district administration chalked out an elaborate program in line with the national program to observe the day. Besides, different socio-cultural, political organizations including Awami League and professional groups also designed various programs to mark the day.

The daylong programs was formally started with booming of a 31-gun salutes on the district collectorate office premises in the early hours of the day. The national flag was hoisted atop of all the public and private buildings at the sun-rising period.

As part of the programs, people from all walks of life including political leaders , freedom fighters, officers and public representatives placed floral wreaths at the Independence memorial monument at Satpai at dawn.

A colorful combined parade of police, Ansar, BNCC, boys scouts, girl guides, and children of different educational institutions and juvenile clubs was held at local stadium here in the morning.

Deputy commissioner of Netrakona Main-UL-Islam accompanied by police super Netrakona Joydeb Chowdhory formally took salute at the parade from a decorated rostrum.

The district information office arranged screening of documentary film show on “liberation war” for the school children at Netrakona central Shaheed minar premises at noon.

A reception was accorded to the freedom fighters and family members of the martyred freedom fighters by the district administration at local public hall here.

Netrakona Shishu academy arranged an art, easy and cultural competition on “liberation war” for the school children at local Shishu academy in the afternoon.

Improved diets were served among the inmates of the hospitals, jails and orphanage children family centers in the district by the government. Local daily newspapers published special supplements highlighting the significance of the day.

A musical soiree based on “patriotic songs” was arranged at Netrakona public hall in the afternoon under the auspices of the district administration and district Shilpakala academy.

Special prayers were offered at all the mosques, temples and churches and other places of the worships seeking divine blessings for peace and salvation of the departed souls of the martyred freedom fighters and peace and prosperity of the nation.
