Martyred Intellectual Day observed in Ctg
CHATTOGRAM, Dec 14, 2018 (BSS) – The Martyred Intellectual Day was observed
in the port city today.
Different political parties, socio-cultural and professional organisations
arranged discussions, cultural functions and milad mahfils to pay rich
tributes to the country’s golden son and daughters who were killed at the end
of the War of Liberation in 1971.
National flags were hoisted half-mast at all public offices and important
institutions marking the day.
Chattogram centres of Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar aired
special programmes while local dailies published special articles
highlighting the significance of the day.
Chattogram city unit of Awami League placed wreaths at local Shaheed Minar
in the morning and arranged a discussion at party office situated at Darul
Fazal Market.
Chattogram north and south district chapters of Awami League, Bangladesher
Communist Party, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal, Bangabandhu Samaj Kallayan
Parishad, Muktijdder Bijoy Mela Parisad and Bangladesh Islamic Front arranged
various programmes including placing wreaths at Shaheed Minar, holding of
discussion meetings, cultural functions and Milad Mahfils to observe the day.
Chattogram Union of Journalists (CUJ) and Chattogram Press Club (CPC)
leaders placed wreaths at Shaheed Minar at one minute past zero hours today.
CUJ President Nazim Uddin Shyamol, CPC President Kolim Sarwar and General
Secretary Suklal Das, vice president of Bangladesh Federal Union of
Journalist Reaz Haider Chodhury, CUJ General Secretary Hasan Ferdouse, joint
secretary Chowdhury Farid and a number of incumbent and former CUJ and CPC
leaders were present there.
Later, a discussion meeting under joint auspices of CUJ and CPC was held at
CPC auditorium in the morning today.
Chattogram District Administration, Chattogram District Shilpakala Academy
and Shishu academy organized a discussion, essay competition at Shishu
Academy.
Bangladesh Chhatra League Chattogram city unit today observed the Martyred
Intellectual Day. They arranged a candle light vigil at the killing ground
(Boddho Bhumi) at Pahartali in the morning. Besides, the authorities of
Chattogram University (CU), Chattogram University of Engineering and
Technology, University of Science and Technology Chattogram observed the day.
