UN condemns violence against opposition ahead of DRC vote
GENEVA, Dec 14, 2018 (BSS/AFP) – The UN rights chief on Friday denounced
violence targeting the opposition by troops in Democratic Republic of Congo,
days before a vote marred by an increasingly tense campaign.
“I am deeply worried about the reports of excessive use of force,
including live ammunition, by security forces against opposition rallies,”
the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet,
said in a statement, while urging the authorities to ensure the “conditions
for credible elections” are in place.
