Intellectuals were killed to make nation talentless: Speaker

RANGPUR, Dec 14, 2018 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin
Chaudhury today said the Pakistani occupation forces with their local
collaborators killed intellectuals in pre-planned manner to make the nation
talentless at dawn of the independence in 1971.

“The grateful nation shall remember supreme sacrifice of martyred
intellectuals with deep respect forever,” Dr Shirin said while addressing a
discussion held on Pirganj Central Shaheed Minar premises in Pirganj upazila
town here as the chief guest.

Pirganj upazila Awami League (AL) organised the discussion in observance
of the Martyred Intellectuals’ Day (MID) – 2018.

The Speaker said the killers of intellectuals and defeated forces of 1971
have worn the shape of militants and are trying to create anarchy and
unstable situation across the country.

“Our independent and sovereign Bangladesh is the fruit of the 23-year long
struggles and sacrifice under leadership of the best Bangalee for thousand
years Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” she said.

The independence-seeker people irrespective of caste, creed and religious
instantly took part in the War of Liberation after being inspired by the
directional March 7 speech of Bangabandhu and returned homes triumphantly.

“We have to remain alert against the defeated anti-liberations forces,
Razakars, al-badars and al-shams those killed our intellectuals for realising
their vested interests by making the nation talentless,” Dr Shirin said.

She said supreme sacrifice of martyred intellectuals shall continue to
inspire the young generations in building a developed ‘Sonar Bangla’ dreamt
by Bangabandhu.

In the early morning, local leaders of AL and its associate bodies hoisted
black flag and national flag at half-mast atop the local party office in
Pirganj town.

The Speaker placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu at Pirganj
upazila AL office and later, placed wreaths at Pirganj Central Shaheed Minar
to pay due respect to martyred intellectuals.

Wearing black badges, the Speaker with local leaders of AL and its
associate bodies observed one-minute silence at the Shaheed Minar and offered
munajats seeking divine blessings for departed souls of the martyred
intellectuals before the discussion.

With Acting President of Pirganj upazila AL Azizul Haque Ranga in the
chair, its General Secretary and Pirganj municipal Mayor Tazimul Islam Shamim
moderated the discussion.

Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer TM Abdul Momin, Senior Vice-president of
district AL Chhayadat Hossain Bakul, its Cultural Affairs Secretary Shahidul
Islam Pintu, Pirganj upazila JASOD President Mir Mohammad Ali Manik and
President of upazila Jatiya Party Nure Alam Jadu also spoke.
