Shakib’s fifty lifts Tigers to 255/7 in 2nd ODI

DHAKA, Dec 11, 2018 (BSS)- A responsible half-century came from the bat of Shakib Al Hasan saw Bangladesh scored a competitive total of 255 for 7 from their allotted 50 overs against visiting West Indies in the second ODI of the three-match series at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur here on Tuesday.

The Tigers suffered a blow when opener Liton Das was sustained ankle injury off a fullish delivery from Oshane Thomas in the second over. Liton had to retire hurt on 5.

Medium pacer Keemo Paul then struck on Bangladesh innings as he sent back Imrul Kayes. The left handed opener returned to the pavilion without disturbing the score board after opener Liton Das has been stretchered off following an ankle injury.

Another opener Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim have steadied the Tigers’ innings after the loss of Imrul Kayes’s wicket. The duo shared 111-run second wicket to take the team to a comfortable position before Devendra Bishoo broke the important partnership removing Tamim Iqbal.

The Southpaw opener Tamim scored his 43rd ODI fifty, 50 off 63 balls with the help of four boundaries and one over boundary went for the slog sweep off leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo, failed to get a hold of it and was caught at deep midwicket by Kemar Roach.

West Indies pacer Oshane Thomas brought West Indies in match taking the important wicket of set batsman Mushfiqur Rahim. The dependable batsman Mushfiqur, who hit his consecutive half centuries in the series, composed well knock 62-runs off 80-ball laced with five boundaries before he was caught by Shai Hope.

After the departure of Mushfiqur, Sakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad revived the Bangladesh’s innings putting on 61-run for the fourth wicket stand.

The ace all-rounder Shakib, the top scorer of Bangladesh’s innings, Shakib continued on to accelerate in the death overs with Liton returning to batting after Soumya’s dismissal. Liton had a short stay with 8 runs. Shakib scored his 40th ODI fifty, smashing six fours and a six in his 62-ball 65-run knock.

Mahmudullah supported him with a priceless 30 runs off 51 balls featuring three boundaries before he was accounted by Rovman Powell.

Oshane Thomas was the pick of West Indies’s bowler as he grabbed three Bangladesh’s wickets conceding 54 runs.
