Election campaign begins in full swing in Khulna

KHULNA, Dec 11, 2018 (BSS) – Election campaign has begun in all six
constituencies of Khulna from Monday (yesterday) afternoon after a total of
35 candidates received symbols from the Returning Officers at the deputy
commissioner’s office.

Candidates and their supporters conducted the election campaigns at the
respective constituencies through procession, rally, view-exchange meeting
and distributing leaflets.

In Khulna-1 constituency, incumbent Awami League (AL) parliament member
Panchanan Biswas (Boat) and BNP aspirant Amir Ezaz Khan (Paddy-Sheaf) are the
main contestants. The other three contestants are – Jatiya Party aspirant
Sunil Shuva Roy (Plough), Islami Andolon aspirant (Hand fan) Abu Sayeed and
CPB aspirant (Scythe) Ashok Kumar Sarkar.

AL aspirant Sheikh Salahuddin Jewel, nephew of Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Muzibur Rahman, is contesting for the first time from
Khulna-2 constituency.

BNP aspirant ex-MP Nazrul Islam Manzu, who was defeated in the last Khulna
City Corporation (KCC) mayoral election, is the main contestant against
Jewel.

Others candidates of the constituency are – Abdul Awal (Islami Andolon), H
M Shahadat(CPB), K M Idris Ali Biltu (Zaker Party – Symbol-Rose), Monira
Begum(Ganofront- Symbol-Fish) and S M Sohag (BNF- Television).

City unit general secretary of AL Mizanur Rahman Mizan is the incumbent
parliament member of Khulna-2 constituency.

Former State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnuzan Sufian, MP,
is contesting for Khulna-3 constituency. BNP aspirant Rokibul Islam Bakul is
the main contestant against Monnuzan.

Islami Andolon backed Muzzammil Haque, Zaker Party aspirant S M Sabbir
Hossain and Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal aspirant Jonardan Dutta (Ladder) are
contesting here.

In Khulna-4 constituency, Former BJMEA president and famous footballer
Salam Murshedi, MP, is contesting here with the Boat symbol. Former
Jatiatabadi Chhatradal (JCD) president and BNP aspirant Azizul Bari Helal is
the main opponent of Murshedi.

On September, 2018, Murshedi was elected unopposed as parliament member
through by-election after the death of former MP S M Mostofa Rashidi Suja.

Biploby Workers Party aspirant K M Ali (Symbol-Grubber), Sheikh Ansar Ali
of Zaker Party and Sheikh Habibur Rahman of BNF are contesting in the
constituency.

Fisheries and Live Stock Minister Naryan Chandra Chanda, MP, is contesting
from Khulna-5 constituency. BNP backed independent aspirant Md Golam Parwar
is the main contestant against Naryan. Parwar who is also the central Nayeb-
e-Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami was elected parliament member in 2001 general
election. Shaikh Mujibor Rahman of Zaker Party, Chitta Ranjon Golder of CPB
and Shaheed Alam of Jatiya Party are contesting here.

In Khulna-6 constituency, Sheikh Aktaruzzaman Babu got the AL ticket
instead of incumbent parliament member Sheikh Nurul Haque. BNP backed city
unit President of Jamaat-e-Islami Abul Kalam Azad is contesting with paddy-
sheaf while Gazi Nur Ahmed of Islami Andolon, Subash Chandra Sana of CPB,
Sheikh Murtoza Alam-Al-Mamun of Zaker Party, Shafiqul Islam Modhu of Jatiya
Party and Mirza Golam Azam of BNF are contesting in the seat.
