SC stays HC order to accept nomination papers of Tuku, Dulu
DHAKA, Dec 11, 2018 (BSS) – The Appellate Division Chamber Judge today
stayed a High Court order that paved way for accepting nomination papers of
BNP leaders Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku and Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu to take
part in the upcoming general polls.
Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order today and sent the matter to
Appellate Division full bench for further hearing tomorrow.
Concerned returning officers recently declared the nomination papers of
Tuku and Dulu illegal as they were convicted and sentenced to different terms
in criminal cases. They later appealed with the EC but failed to win their
cases there as well.
Later, they appealed with the High Court and the court on December 10
asked the EC to accept their nomination papers. The EC subsequently filed an
appeal against the decision.
