Spontaneous VAT payment stressed for strengthening economy

RANGPUR, Dec 10, 2018 (BSS) – Spontaneous payment of value added tax (VAT)
and other taxes by the businesspersons and consumers would further strengthen
the national economy to accelerate progress in building a developed
Bangladesh.

The opinion came today at a discussion on ‘Role of VAT in Realising Vision
2021 and Vision 2041’ organised by the Divisional Customs, Excise and VAT
Commissionerate at Zila Parisahd Community Centre here in observance of the
National VAT Day- 2018.

Member (Grade-1, Customs Policy and ICT) of National Board of Revenue
(NBR) Md Feroz Shah Alam attended the discussion as chief guest with
Divisional Commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate AKM
Ahsanul Haque in the chair.

Commissioner of Taxes for Rangpur Zone Fazlur Rahman, Senior Vice-
president of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mostoba Hossain Ripan
and President of Rangpur Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Rezaul
Islam Milan addressed as special guests.

Joint Commissioner of Divisional Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate
Abdul Mannan Sarder narrated importance of paying VAT for enhancing revenue
earning to make the country economically self-reliant.

The speakers called for creating awareness among all concerned to enhance
revenue earning in the form of VAT and taxes for further strengthening the
national economy.

The chief guest stressed on conducting motivational activities to convince
industrialists, businesspersons and common consumers for spontaneous payments
of VAT and all taxes to implement developments at our own without depending
on foreign assistance.

“Many least developed countries have become developed nations as their
citizens pay VAT and taxes properly,” he said adding that the government has
launched the new VAT law to make the process of paying VAT in a hassle-free
manner.

Ahsanul Haque called upon all concerned for paying VAT and other taxes with
patriotic zeal to speed up national uplift for turning Bangladesh into a
middle income nation by 2021, and subsequently a developed country by 2041.

Later, the chief guest distributed crests and citations among the top
seventeen VAT payers of different districts under Rangpur division.
