Joyeeta women are social idols for women empowerment: officials

RANGPUR, Dec 10, 2018 (BSS) – Officials at a function have termed the
Joyeeta women as social idols and sources of inspiration for women in
attaining self-reliance overcoming hurdles and proving own abilities, talent,
expertise and efficiency.

The Kurigram district administration and Department of Women Affairs
jointly organised the event under the ‘Joyeeta Onneshone Bangladesh’
programme on Sunday afternoon at ‘Swapnokuri Hall Room’ at the Deputy
Commissioner’s office in Kurigram district town.

The function was arranged to accord reception to ten ‘Joyeeta’ women,
including five at the district and five at the upazila levels, of Kurigram on
the Rokeya Day- 2018 for their tremendous contributions in their respective
social sectors.

Deputy Commissioner of Kurigram Sultana Pervin attended the function as
chief guest with District Women Affairs Officer Shahana Akhter in the chair.

Superintendent of Police for Kurigram Mehedul Karim, Director of Kurigram
22 BGB battalion Lt Colonel Jamal, Additional Deputy Commissioners Hafizur
Rahman and Zilufa Sultana attended as special guests.

Earlier, a large number of successful women in different fields of social
advancements from all nine upazilas of Kurigram district participated in the
‘Joyeeta Onneshone Bangladesh’ programme.

Finally, ten successful women were selected at the district and upazila
levels as ‘Joyeeta’ for their extra ordinary contributions to their
respective sectors in accelerating social advancement.

The district level five ‘Joyeeta’ women are: Somosto Banu (economic self-
reliance), Lailey Begum (education and employment), Sufia Begum (successful
mother), Nasrine Nahar (rebuilding life after suffering repression) and
Takshina Akhter (social development).

The upazila level five ‘Joyeeta’ women are: Munni Begum (economic self-
reliance), Lailey Begum (education and employment), Noor Banu Begum
(successful mother), Asma Begum (rebuilding life after suffering repression)
and Takshina Akhter (social development).

The chief guest distributed crests, certificates and cash money among the
ten ‘Joyeeta’ women.

The chief guest said the ‘Joyeeta’ women have established them as
glittering stars in the society through their successes in different fields
encouraging other women to win various challenges for setting up shining
examples.

“The women of the country have already proved their abilities, expertise
and efficiency to establish gender equity in every sphere of the society
turning Bangladesh into a global role model for development and empowerment
women,” she said.
