“Country marching efficiently toward realising Rokeya’s dream”

RANGPUR, Dec 09, 2018 (BSS) – The country is marching efficiently toward
realising the ideals and conscience of great woman Begum Rokeya through
ensuring education, equal rights, dignity and socio-political empowerment of
the women.

High officials and civil society members made the observations today at
a discussion organised on first day of the three-day observance programmes of
Rokeya Day-2018 by district administration at her birthplace village
Pairaband in Mithapukur upazila here.

Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Joynul Bari inaugurated observance of
the day with placing wreaths at Begum Rokeya Smritistambha and releasing
pigeons in Pairaband village.

Later, wreaths were placed there by leaders of Begum Rokeya Smriti
Sangshad, Sheikh Russell Smriti Sangshad, Begum Rokeya Degree College, Begum
Rokeya Memorial Academy, Begum Rokeya Memorial Gils’ High School, Begum
Rokeya Shakhawat Sangskritik Gosthi and many other organisations paying rich
tribute to Begum Rokeya.

A milad mahfil was arranged at Pairaband seeking divine blessings for
departed soul of Begum Rokeya followed by blood donation, blood group tests,
inauguration of three-day traditional `Rokeya Fair’, screening of documentary
films and cultural function.

In the evening, the Divisional Commissioner attended the discussion as
chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib in the chair.

Mithapukur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mamunur Rashid delivered the welcome
speech.

Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Devdas Bhattacharya addressed
the discussion as special guest.

Former Head of the Department of Bengali of Rangpur Begum Rokeya
Government College Professor Mohammad Shah Alam presented the keynote essay
on “Begum Rokeya’s Non-communal and Equity Thoughts” in the discussion.

Assistant Professor of the Department of Accounting and Information
System of Begum Rokeya University Omar Faruk and General Secretary of Begum
Rokeya Smritikendra Rafikul Islam Dulal participated as main discussants.

The discussants narrated the doctrine and contribution of Begum Rokeya
in advancing the womenfolk through spreading the knowledge of education to
ensure their equal rights by eradicating gender disparity for sustainable
national advancement.

Omar Faruk stressed on disseminating the philosophy of Begum Rokeya to
young generations, students and youths for realising her dream by ensuring
modern science- and technology-based education for the women to ensure their
empowerment.

The chief guest laid emphasis on establishing the philosophy, ideals,
moral courage and teachings of Begum Rokeya in the present society to prevent
discriminatory attitude toward the women, repression and violence against
them.

He termed Begum Rokeya as a great social philosopher, national pride and
idol of the women community and said that her ideals are still showing right
pathway and direction to the modern society, generations, politicians and
policy-makers.

“Bangladesh has already achieved laudable success and become a global
role model by attaining desired success in empowerment of the women as dreamt
by Begum Rokeya on way to accomplish sustainable development,” he said.
