Ward No-25 declared beggar free in Rangpur city

RANGPUR, Dec 07, 2018 (BSS) – The Ward No-25 of Rangpur City Corporation
(RpCC) has been declared beggar-free through rehabilitation and creation of
alternative employments for all 30 beggars of the ward in the city.

Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib declared the ward beggar-free in a
function held on the Social Economic Centre premises in Indrar Mour area of
Ward No-25 on Thursday afternoon as the chief guest.

The district administration and Department of Social Services (DSS)
jointly organised the function under auspices of Bangladesh Jatiya Samaj
Kalyan Parishad (BJSKP) of the Ministry of Social Welfare.

The beggars were rehabilitated under the ‘Rehabilitation and Creation of
Alternative Employment for People Engaged in Begging Programme’ being
implemented by the government through the DSS and Cooperative Office with
BJSKP assistance.

With Deputy Director of the DSS Abdur Razzaque in the chair, Deputy
Director (Local Government) Ruhul Amin Mian attended the function as the
special guest.

City Councilor (Ward No-25) Nurunnabi Fulu, District Cooperative Officer
Tauhiduzzaman Khondker and General Secretary of District Women Sports
Association China Chowdhury addressed the occasion.

Eleven auto rickshaws bought at the cost of Taka 4.50 lakh with BJSKP
assistance were distributed among the 30 beggars of Ward No-25 through a
cooperative society formed involving them for their rehabilitation through
alternative employments.

The chief guest said the government is implementing comprehensive social
safety net programmes, including Rehabilitation and Creation of Alternative
Employment for People Engaged in Begging, to free the country from poverty
for attaining SDGs.

He called upon the supervising authorities, including the DSS, District
Cooperative Office and Rangpur City Corporation, for successful
implementation of the programme to make the beggars self-reliant through
income generations.
