CEC warns of legal action for filing false complaints on polls

DHAKA, Dec 5, 2018 (BSS) – Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) K M Nurul
Huda today warned of taking punitive action against those responsible for
filing false complaints regarding the electoral process.

“Anyone who does not abide by the instructions of the election officials
will have to face seven years of imprisonment as per section 193 of the penal
code. A person providing false/fabricated news and violating the instruction
of the election officials will face legal action under section 228 of the
penal code,” the CEC said while addressing a workshop of ‘Electoral Inquiry
Committee’ at Nirbachan Bhaban in city’s Agargaon area.

The CEC instructed the field level election officials to follow the code of
civil procedure of 1908 to carry out their responsibilities.

A total of 244 joint district judges, session judges and assistant judges
who are the members of the electoral inquiry committee, were present at the
workshop.

The Election Commission has constituted the Electoral Inquiry Committee
with the coordination of judges in every district. The committee has been
given the responsibility of conducting judicial process during the election
period.

Among others, four election commissioners and the EC secretary also spoke
at the programme.
