Menon appeals against legality of Abbas’s nomination paper
DHAKA, Dec 5, 2018 (BSS) – Social Welfare Minister and Workers Party
president Rashed Khan Menon today filed an appeal with the Election
Commission (EC) challenging the legality of the nomination paper submitted by
BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas.
The appeal was filed by Menon’s lawyer Zead Al-Malum this morning.
“We have filed the appeal, seeking scrapping of Abbas’s nomination paper
for concealing information in affidavit. The BNP leader has concealed the
fact that his wife is a loan defaulter. He in his affidavit claimed that he
owes more than Taka 73 lakh to his wife. His wife again in her affidavit had
claimed that he owes Taka one crore to her. The whole thing is confusing,”
Malum told newsmen.
The EC has declared Abbas’s nomination paper for Dhaka-8, the same seat
for which Menon is also a candidate, constituency legal.
