Probe body formed over suicide of Viqarunnisa student

DHAKA, Dec 4, 2018 (BSS)-A three-member probe committee has been formed to investigate the suicide incident of Aritree Adhikari, a Class-IX student of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College.

The committee, headed by director of Dhaka region of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) Professor Mohammad Yusuf, has been formed at the directive of education minister Nurul Islam Nahid, said a press release.

Two other members of the committee are deputy director of DSHE’s Dhaka region Shakhawat Hossain Biswas and Dhaka district education officer Benzir Ahmad.

The committee has been asked to submit report within the next three days.

Aritree Adhikari, daughter of Dilip Adhikari, committed suicide at their Shantinagar residence in the city on Monday after allegedly being rebuked by teachers for using mobile phone during annual examination.

Meanwhile, education minister Nurul Islam Nahid today visited Viqarunnisa Noon School and College (VNSC) and talked to principal, teachers, guardians and students present there.

He said necessary action will be taken immediately after getting the probe committee report. The education ministry has taken the incident of suicide as a serious matter as the suicide of the student is a very painful, he added.

Terming the suicide of Aritree as painful and tragic, Nahid expressed deep shock and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
