Form committee to probe Oritri’s suicide: HC

DHAKA, Dec 4, 2018 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today ordered authorities concerned to form a committee to determine causes behind suicide of Oritri Adhikari, a ninth-grader of Viqarunnisa Noon School & College.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice F.R.M. Nazmul Ahasan and Justice K. M. Kamrul Kader passed the order, asking for formation of the five-member committee headed by an additional education secretary.

According to the order, the committee will submit its report within a month. It will also work on formulating a national policy to tackle similar incidents.

The court passed the suo moto order as the sad incident was brought to the attention of the court. The court asked the concerned to keep an official, not below the rank of deputy secretary, of Ministry of Social Welfare, an educationist, a psychologist, and a lawyer in the committee.

Oritri, 15, took her own life yesterday by hanging by her neck in her Shantinagar home after getting scolded in school for bringing mobile phone in exam hall.
