Oikyafront’s allegations counter to fair election: 14-party

DHAKA, Dec 4, 2018 (BSS) – The 14-party alliance today alleged that different allegations raised by Jatiya Oikyafront and BNP ahead of the parliamentary election are in contradiction of holding a free and fair election in the country.

“Before some days, Jatiya Oikyafront Convener Dr Kamal Hossain raised six allegations. BNP leader Barrister Moudud Ahmed also lodged different complaints with the Election Commission (EC). We think their allegations are an obstacle for a free and fair election,” Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua told journalists after holding a meeting with EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed.

A delegation of the 14-party alliance led by him held the meeting at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the city’s Agargaon area.

BNP and the Jatiya Oikyafront are playing a blame game to make the upcoming general election controversial, Barua said, adding, “Through this blame game, they are trying to create scopes so that they can raise questions even after the election is held in a free and fair manner”.

They (BNP and Oikyafront) are also trying to make the Election Commission as their opponent for implementing their different blue prints in the future, he said, adding, “So, we have urged the Election Commission to be alert in this regard”.

He further alleged that they can create chaos in the country before the election as Jamaat-e-Islami activists are the main forces of the Oikyafront.

“They are trying to foil the election by devising plans locally and internationally to make it questionable and create political instability in the country through making the EC controversial,” Barua said.

Ganatanri Party General Secretary Dr Shahadat Hossain, Awami League (AL) Organizing Secretary Abdur Rahman, Jatiya Party (JP) Presidium Member Ezaz Ahmed Mukta and JASAD leader Nader Chowdhury were present on the occasion.
