Govt. very positive for welfare of people with disabilities

RAJSHAHI, Dec 4, 2018 (BSS) – Political leaders and development
activists here observed that the present government is very much positive
towards welfare of the people with disabilities and other special needs.

They also mentioned that the government under the dynamic leadership of
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been implementing various need-based
programmes for improving living and livelihood condition the people.

They came up with the observation while addressing a discussion relating
to welfare of the challenged population at a city community clinic yesterday.

Rajanigandha Protibandhi Unnayan Sangstha (RPUS) organized the
discussion marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and
National Disabled Day-2018.

Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, addressed the discussion as chief guest with
RPUS President Rasel Chowdhury in the chair. Social Worker Shahin Akter Rainy
and District Coordinator of ADD International Nahida Sultana also spoke.

Lawmaker Badsha underscored the need for ensuring congenial atmosphere
to make an end to discrimination against the persons with disabilities to
enable them leading a decent life.

Terming the disabled persons as the integral part of the society, he
mentioned time has come to bring them into the mainstream of the society for
overall development of the nation.

Badsha emphasised the need for establishing a sound and friendly
atmosphere for the disabled persons to ensure a dignified position for them
in society.

He appreciated the theme of the day, “Empowering persons with
disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equity”, saying it was important
to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Referring to the government steps for welfare of the disabled persons,
he said all concerned should make the best use of all facilities in the
greater interest of these people.

Shahin Akter urged the affluent section of the society as well as the
philanthropists to come forward with their helping hands to supplement the
government’s efforts to properly place the disadvantaged people in the
society.

The disabled children must be given an equal opportunity in
institutional education like the privileged ones so that they could grow as
worthy citizens and contribute to the country’s development, she added.
