Chinese yuan weakens slightly in November: index

BEIJING, Dec. 3, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) – The Chinese currency yuan weakened
slightly against a basket of currencies in November, according to a China
Foreign Exchange Trade System (CFETS) index.

The CFETS yuan exchange rate composite index, known as the CFETS RMB
Index, which measures the yuan’s strength relative to a basket of currencies,
came in at 92.19 at the end of last month, down 0.18 percent from the end of
October.

This marked a decrease of 0.14 points from a week ago, the CFETS said.

The index compares the yuan to the value of 24 currencies, including the
U.S. dollar, the euro and the Japanese yen, expanded from a basket of 13
currencies in 2016.

In the past month, an index that measures the yuan against the Bank for
International Settlements currency basket went down 0.16 percent to 95.88 and
strengthened against the Special Drawing Rights basket by 0.25 percent to
92.39, according to CFETS.
