BNP’s demand for reshuffling administration illogical: HT Imam

DHAKA, Dec 2, 2018 (BSS) – Awami League (AL) advisory council member and co-chairman of its national polls conducting committee HT Imam today said the BNP’s demand to the Election Commission (EC) relating to reshuffling the administration is illogical.

“It needs to reshuffle the entire government to meet the BNP’s demands of reshuffling the administration. BNP has already given their consent to take part in the upcoming national election under the current government as well as the administration. I think, raising any question (regarding administration) is illogical,” he told newsmen after coming out of a meeting with the EC at Agargaon’ Nirbachan Bhaban here.

Regarding ensuring a level playing field after the rejection of detained BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, he said, “This is the jurisdiction of Election Commission, the returning officers and the Supreme Court. It is a matter related to law and a convicted person, not the chief of any political party.”

Demanding punishment in case of flouting the electoral rule by any quarter, he said, “We have heard that BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir held a meeting at Syedpur Airport which was a clear violation of the electoral laws. Holding of meetings by anybody is violation of electoral rules. We want level playing field (in the election) which would ensure free and fair election that will be accepted by all.”

Asked about the update report on Bangladesh prepared by the House of Commons, the AL leader said, “It was the matter of the House of Commons. The House of Commons don’t mean England.”

Referring to the entire European parliament’s comment, he said, “A delegation of the EU parliament has already visited Bangladesh and said there was no need to send any observers in Bangladesh to observe the election as fair and objective environment is prevailing in Bangladesh for holding a free and fair election.”

However, AL organizing secretary Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nawfel said, “The EU parliament delegation gave their opinion regarding the upcoming election after visiting Bangladesh and it was not acceptable what its Dhaka office said later. The House of Commons has not yet officially informed us about the matter.”

Among others, AL Presidium Member Col (Rtd) Faruk Khan, MP, Fazilatun Nesa Bappi, MP, advisory council member Dr Moshiur Rahman, Rashedul Islam, deputy office secretary Barrister Biplob Barua, SM Kamal Hossain, Advocate Riazul Kabir Kawsar, Marufa Akhter Poppy, Tanvir Imam, MP, Enamul Haque Chowdhury and Dr Selim Mahmud, were present on the occasion.
