Two Shibir men held for spreading anti-govt propaganda

DHAKA, Nov 29, 2018 (BSS) – Members of Rapid Action Battalion-2 (RAB) today
arrested two suspected members of Islamic Chhatra Shibir from the city’s
Mohammadpur and Gazipur’s Tongi areas for their alleged involvement in
publishing fake news against the government by creating fake websites.

The arrestees were identified as Md Kamal Hossain alias Md Kamal Hossain,
23, and Md Al Amin, 30, said Company Commander of RAB-2 Mohiuddin Faruqi at a
press briefing at the media centre of the elite force in the city’s Kawran
Bazar area.

A laptop and a mobile phone were seized from their possession, Faruqi said,
adding that they are affiliated with Islami Chhatra Shibir, students’ wing of
Jamaat-e-Islami.

The arrestees confessed that they used to upload fake news by creating
fake websites to earn more, the RAB official said, adding that they used to
earn Taka 250 to Taka 300 from per 1,000 likes.

Necessary steps will be taken under the Digital Security Act, he said.

Earlier, the elite force arrested another ‘Shibir activist’ and PhD
researcher Enamul Haque on November 24 in connection with publishing fake
news after creating fake websites.
