Liton included as back-up for Mushfiqur in Test squad

DHAKA, Nov 29, 2018 (BSS)- Top order batsman-cum-wicketkeeper Liton Das
has been included in Bangladesh’s squad as a back-up of Mushfiqur Rahim ahead
of their second Test match against visiting West Indies.

Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan at a pre-match press conference today
said, “Liton has been kept as a backup player in case if the pain in Mushfiq
bhai’s hand increases then we might go for our back-up option.”

Mushfiqur received injuries in his right thumb during practice on
Wednesday. Though nothing serious was found in the X-ray report but he is
still having pain.

He said adding, “As far as I know at the moment, Mushfiq bhai will play
and will keep wickets in the second Test.”

With Imrul Kayes out of the squad, uncapped Shadman Islam is likely to
open for the Tigers along with Soumya Sarkar. Hence, Liton’s batting position
remains unknown, in case he joins the team to take the wicket-keeping role
Mushfiqur will play as a batsman.

Asked which position Liton will play for the team if Mushfiqur failed to
keep the wicket, Shakib said it would be very difficult for Liton to open and
take the wicket-keeping role at the same time.

Meanwhile, Liton did not resume play after the end of the first day of the
second round of BCL after selectors decided to call him for the second Test.

He was initially dropped from squad for Windies series following his
dismal performance in recently concluded Zimbabwe series. He scored a duck
and 95-ball 84 against South Zone in Sylhet in the first round of BCL.
