Argentina, Russia to sign deal on nuclear power – ambassador

BUENOS AIRES, Nov 28, 2018 (BSS/TASS) – Argentina and Russia plan to sign an
agreement on strategic partnership in the nuclear power generation sphere
during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit, Russia’s ambassador to
Buenos Aires, Dmitry Feoktistov, said.

“An agreement on strategic partnership in the nuclear sphere is among the
documents to be signed,” the ambassador told Russian reporters.

He said the document would mention “various areas of cooperation in this
domain,” including “the possible construction of a major NPP (nuclear power
plant), designed by Russia.”

“Russia is ready to bring a ready-made project and its own financing to
Argentina,” the Russian diplomat went on. “We can build such a power plant,
operate it and sell electricity to Argentine partners at a certain fixed
price.”

The sides also discuss a project to build a less powerful NPP and the
possibility of joint construction or sale of a floating NPP.

“In addition to this framework document, a roadmap for cooperation in the
area is also being discussed, but it looks like our Argentinean partners did
not have enough time to coordinate it,” Feoktistov said, adding that “the
document would probably mention specific projects.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the G20 summit in Buenos Aires
between November 30 and December 1. On the first day of December, the Russian
leader will meet his Argentine counterpart.
