Nation pays tribute commemorating Dr Milon

DHAKA, Nov 27, 2018 (BSS) – Shaheed Dr Milon Day was observed today
commemorating the 28th martyrdom anniversary of Dr Shamsul Alam Khan Milon,
the then joint secretary general of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA).

Dr Milon, who was also a teacher of Dhaka Medical College (DMC), was killed
by the goons of military junta near Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of Dhaka
University (DU) at the height of anti-autocracy movement on the day in 1990.

The supreme sacrifice of Dr Milon transformed the anti-autocracy movement
into a mass upsurge that prompted the fall of the then autocratic regime
paving the way for restoration of democracy in the country.

Leaders and activists of different political parties and socio-cultural
organisations paid rich tributes to Shaheed Milon.

DU unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) placed wreaths at the monument
of Dr Milon recalling the supreme sacrifice.

After paying tribute, BCL DU unit General secretary Saddam Hussain said,
“We remembered the historical sacrifice of Dr Milon. He sacrifices his life
for the sake of democracy. Such sacrifice is an inspiration for us to
establish democracy.”

Bangladesh Students’ Union President Foyzullah said the Government should
complete the trial of Dr Milon killing.

Several other socio-cultural and student organisations paid rich tributes
to Shaheed Dr Milon at the premises of Milon Smrity Chattar (Square) near TSC
praying for eternal peace of the departed soul of Dr Milon.

Numerous democracy-loving people, including Jubo League leaders Nur
Hossain, Nurul Huda, Babul and Fattha embraced martyrdom in the movement for
restoring democracy.
