Eight Jamaat men held with petrol bombs in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Nov 23, 2018 (BSS) – Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)
arrested eight leader and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami of Bangladesh with
petrol bombs and ‘jihadi’ books and leaflets from a secret meeting in the
city’s Damodarpur area today.

“On a tip-off, a special operational team of Crime Prevention Special
Company of RAB-13 from its battalion headquarters conducted a raid and
arrested the Jamaat men from the secret meeting at the house of one late
Shamsul Kader,” a press release said.

The arrested are Ameer of the city’s Satgara Organisational Thana Wazed
Ali Shah, 61, activists Ershadul Haque, 36, Rafikul Islam, 60, Redwanul
Haque, 38, and Motiar Rahman, 52, of Madhya Pirjabad, Mozammel Haque, 60,
Merajul Islam, 30, and Abdul Karim, 65, of Damodarpur area in Kotwali Thana
of Rangpur Metropolitan Police who gathered at the secret meeting for
planning to conduct subversive activities.

The elite force also seized seven petrol bombs, huge quantities of
‘jihadi’ books and provocative leaflets from the possession of the arrested
Jamaat men.

“During interrogation, the arrested Jamaat men admitted that they had been
remaining in hideouts for last 7/8 years, conducting organisational
activities, inspiring young people to join Jamaat, collecting money and
planning for subversive activities,” the release added.

After filing separate cases in this connection, the arrested Jamaat men
were handed over to Kotwali Thana of Rangpur Metropolitan Police today.
