Responsive media to ensure institutional delivery stressed

RAJSHAHI, Nov 22, 2018 (BSS) – Health and family planning experts at a
discussion here today mentioned that the role of media is very important
towards ensuring institutional delivery.

They observed that substantial and sustainable reduction of maternal and
infant mortality and morbidity could be possible through hundred percent
institutional deliveries.

They came up with the observation while addressing an advocacy meeting and
press briefing at conference hall of Family Welfare Visitors Training
Institute (FWVTI) in Rajshahi city.

Department of Family Planning (DFP) organised the event to mark its
forthcoming ‘Family Welfare Service and Campaign Week-2018’. It is scheduled
to be observed in all unions, upazilas and districts simultaneously from
November 24 to 29.

The meeting discussed ways and means on how to enhance the institutional
delivery coupled with ensuring post-delivery family planning method. It also
sensitised the media personnel so that they can contribute a lot towards
attaining the cherished goal as media can help intensify the family planning
services to the remote areas.

DFP Deputy Director Dr Nasim Akter and its Assistant Director Tashiqul Haque
addressed the meeting as focal persons. FWVTI Principal Faridul Haque, Deputy
Director of Department of Social Services Rashedul Kabir and District Women
Affairs Officer Shobnam Shirin also spoke.

During his concept paper presentation Medical Officer Dr Abdul Mannan
narrated the aspects of antenatal and postnatal care and institutional
delivery.

“Antenatal care and institutional delivery are considered as the effective
means of preventing various types of high risk factors like pre-eclampsia,
post-eclampsia, ante-partum hemorrhage, post-partum hemorrhage and obstructed
labor,” added Dr Mannan.

Dr Nasim Akter said there is an urgent need of bringing all the fertile
couples and others concerned under the services. So both print and electronic
media should come forward and work together.

She observed that collective efforts of all government and non- government
organisations concerned is very crucial to make all the fertile couples
conscious about the importance of institutional delivery.
