Six held for setting fire to police vehicles

DHAKA, Nov 20, 2018 (BSS) – Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested six persons for vandalising as well as setting fire to police vehicles in front of BNP’s office in city’s Nayapaltan area.

“Police conducted drives at different places in the city and arrested them from Sutrapur area around 5:30 pm yesterday in connection with the attack on police personnel, arson attacks and vandalism,” DMP Additional Police Commissioner M Monirul Islam told newsmen at a press briefing at DMP Media Centre today.

He said police arrested them after scrutinizing video footage and photographs published on different media on the day of incident.

The arrestees are: MHK Hossain Ali, intending president candidate of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCS) and follower of Mirza Abbas, general secretary of JCD Shahjahanpur Thana Unit Sohag Bhuiyan, central committee member of JCD M Abbas Ali, general secretary of JCD Dhaka Metropolitan City North Unit M Ashraful Islam Robin, Joint Secretary of JCD Jagannath University Unit Zakir Hossain Uzzal and Vice-President of JCD Titum College Unit Mahbubul Alam.

Replying to a query, Monirul said there were over 1,000 people on the spot, but only the people were accused in the case who involved in the attacks.

Political identity was not considered regarding the arrest, he said, adding police arrested those who committed criminal offense on the day.

“On the day police showed endless patience,’ he added.

On November 14, BNP leaders and activists carried out an attack on police and set fire to police vehicles in front of the BNP central office in the city’s Nayapaltan area. Later, police filed three cases with Paltan Police Station in this connection.
