BNP leader Barrister Rafikul gets 3-year jail over wealth statement

DHAKA, Nov 20, 2018 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today sentenced BNP standing committee member Barrister Rafikul Islam Miah to three years imprisonment for not submitting wealth statement to Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 came up with the judgment, also fined him Taka 50 thousand, to suffer three months imprisonment in default.

The court also issued arrest warrant against him (Miah) as it pronounced the judgment in his absence.

Then Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on April 7, 2001, issued a notice on him to submit wealth statement. The ACB on January 15, 2004, filed the case with Uttara Police Station against Barrister Miah as he refrained from submitting the report within stipulated time.

The court on November 14, 2017, ordered to initiate the case after taking into cognizance the charges framed against the accused. The court today pronounced the judgement after examining six witnesses in the case.
