PM seeks South Korean investment in power sector

DHAKA, Nov 20, 2018 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today sought South
Korean investment and cooperation in power sector and establishing ICT
training centres in the country.

The premier made the request when the newly appointed South Korean
Ambassador in Dhaka Hu Kang-il paid a courtesy call on her at her office here
this noon.

PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.

He said that the prime minister informed that her government has given
emphasis on developing ICT sector in the country and it would be helpful if
South Korea extends their cooperation in this regard.

She also invited more South Korean investment for the power generation.

The South Korean ambassador highly appreciated the booming economy of
Bangladesh saying that it was very much appriciatable that the country
maintained its more than six percent GDP growth over the last few years.

“This is a huge achievement,” he said.

Hu Kang-il said that his country is ready to cooperate Bangladesh in its
infrastructural development and energy sector.

“More Korean investors will come to invest in Bangladesh as the country has
a very bright and positive future,” he said.

Regarding the Rohingya issue, the envoy said that South Korea has extended
its support to a UN resolution on the Rohingya issue.

“We want safe return of the Rohingyas to their homeland,” he said.

In this connection, Hu Kang-il said that South Korea has already donated US
Dollar 5-million for the assistance of the Rohingyas.

PM’s Principal Secretary Nojibur Rahman was present on the occasion, among
others.
