Tigresses finish Women’s World T20 with defeat

DHAKA, Nov 19, 2018 (BSS)- Bangladesh women’s cricket team finished their
Women’s World T20I with all losing note as they suffered a 30-run defeat to
South Africa in their group A last encounter held on Monday at the Daren
Sammy National Cricket Stadium at Gros Islet, St. Lucia.

Salma Khatun produced a superb bowling display to restrict South Africa to
a small total of 109 for 9 from their stipulated 20 overs.

Marizanne Kappan top scored with 25 runs while opener Lizelle Lee followed
her with 21 for South Africa.

Chloe Tryon (18) and Dane van Niekerk (17) were the other notable scorers
for the Protease.

Apart from Salma Khatun’s three wickets for 20 runs Khadiza-Tul Kubra
finished with two for 18 runs.

In reply, Bangladesh found the chase stiff and eventually restricted at 79
for 5 in their allotted 20 overs despite Rumana Ahmed’s unbeaten 34 runs.

Fargana Haque Pinky (19) was the other notable scorer for Bangladesh as
the Tigresses batsmen failed to build any effective partnership in the face
of tight bowling display by the South African bowlers.

Moseline Daniels, Tumi Sekhukhune, Masabata Klaas, Sune Luus and Dane van
Niekerk all took one wicket giving away 6, 12, 13, 15 and 17 runs
respectively.

Earlier, Bangladesh lost to Windies, England and Sri Lanka in their group
phase matches.
