Tk 11 crore collected at Khulna tax fair
KHULNA, Nov 18, 2018 (BSS) – Tax collection on the first five days of the
ongoing weeklong tax fair has crossed Tk 11.70 crore in Khulna division amid
an increasing turnout of individual taxpayers.
The National board of Revenue (NBR) got a total of Tk 11,70,59,871 from the
division yesterday(Saturday) up to Tk 4,65,79,555 from that of the same
period last year.
Moreover some 28,832 returns were submitted, up 58 percent year-on-year,
according to statement of Khulna Division Tax Zone,
This is the ninth year that the tax authority is holding the event to
provide assistance to individual taxpayers to complete their tax-related
formalities for the year and create a tax culture in the country where
evasion and avoidance are said to be very high.
The tax fair is taking place in 10 districts and four upazilas apart from
Khulna city. In Khulna, the event is being held on Boyra Income Tax Building
premises.
Until yesterday, 55,383 people received services from taxmen at the fair,
according to Md. Jahangir Alam, Commissioner of Taxes, Taxes Zone-Khulna.
He said 1,017 new taxpayers joined the income tax network by signing up tax
payers’ identification number in the first five days.
The fair will remain open from 9am to 5pm every day, he said adding that it
will continue till November 19.
