Ghana targets 7.6 pct GDP growth in 2019
ACCRA, Nov. 17, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) – The Ghanaian government is targeting
an overall real gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 7.6 percent in 2019,
Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta said on Thursday.
The minister said this when he presented the 2019 budget and economic
policy of the government to parliament.
The goverment is eyeing a fiscal deficit of 4.2 percent of GDP, a non-oil
real GDP growth of 6.2 percent and an end-period inflation of 8.0 percent in
the 2019 fiscal year, said the minister.
The budget, which is under the theme: “A Stronger Economy for Jobs and
Prosperity,” is expected to build on the macroeconomic gains in the last two
budgets to create more job opportunities for people.
Ofori-Atta assured the people and the international community that the
government would not compromise on its fiscal consolidation agenda.
The minister has allocated 180 million Ghana cedis (38.3 million U.S.
dollars) to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to fight corruption in
the country.
