Nabanno Utshab begins with festivity in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, NOV 15, 2018 (BSS) – Nabanno Utshab, a festival of harvesting
new crop celebrated by the rural people of Bangladesh on the first day of
Bangla month Agrahayan, began today.

Marking the festival, district administration chalked out the elaborate
programmes that included bringing out colorful rally in the district town,
making home-made cake with rice flour at Independence Square here and its
distribution to all and holding cultural function.

Besides, a function of T-Aman paddy cutting jointly organised by district
administration and department of agricultural extension (DAE) was held at the
land of one farmer M. Anisuzzaman Babu at Maddhya Dhanghara village under
Ballamjhar union of Sadar upazila in the morning.

Deputy commissioner (DC) Sebastin Rema attended the function as the chief
and superintendent of police (SP) Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah, additional
deputy commissioner (General) ABM Sadiqur Rahman and additional deputy
commissioner (Revenue) M. Tofael Hossain were present at the event as the
special guests.

With deputy director of DAE AKM Ruhul Amin in the chair, the function was
also addressed, among others, by district training officer of DAE Showkat
Osman and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman while agriculture extension
officer M. Mosarrof Hossain was the moderator.

Later, the DC and the SP distributed prizes among the farmers who
participated in the paddy cutting competition.

A large number of people including district and upazila level officials,
agri-officials, social workers, NGO activists and media men took part in the
programmes.
