BNP activists attack police without any provocation: Quader

DHAKA, Nov 14, 2018 (BSS) – Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul
Quader today alleged that BNP leaders and activists today carried out an
attack on police in front of the BNP central office in the city’s Naya Paltan
area without any provocation.

“Carrying out the attack on police in front of its (BNP) party office, BNP
has proved again itself as a terrorist party,” he said at a press conference
at AL President Sheikh Hasina’s political office in the city’s Dhanmondi area
this afternoon.

They (BNP) torched two cars of police while 13 police members were sent to
hospital with critical injuries, Quader, also the road transport and bridges
minister, said, raising a question “Have they showed their heroism by
carrying out attack on police to press home their demand for deferring the
election schedule?”

Mentioning that a senior BNP leader led the attack, he said “BNP is a
party of bomb and terrorism. They want to oust the Sheikh Hasina-led
government by creating anarchy across the country”.

Referring to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Quader
said, “Spreading out falsehood is your (BNP) politics. You spread out
falsehood again. Why did police remove the BNP men from the road? There are
video footages. Police were standing like as silent visitors”.

He also alleged that BNP has started hatching conspiracies to foil the
election and added, “They have done what we assumed earlier.”

Police kept patience after being attacked by the BNP activists and they did
not carry out any counter attack, AL general secretary said, adding, “We have to
keep patience as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed us”.

According to the country’s constitution, the law enforcement agencies are
now under the Election Commission (EC), Quader said, adding, “We want to see
and know what measures the EC takes regarding BNP’s activities in the
daylight”.

Terming the upcoming national polls as a people’s expected polls, he said
the countrymen will resist if anyone try to foil the elections.

After hearing the news of BNP’s clash with police personnel, Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina asked to keep patience and thanked the police
personnel for not launching counter attack, AL general secretary said.

Speaking about interview of AL aspirants to get party tickets to contest
the upcoming general election, Quader said interviews of the nomination
aspirants were taken at Ganabhaban, the official residence of Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina.

“Our party leader Sheikh Hasina clearly told all that one will get
nomination for election symbol ‘boat’ in each constituency. But all have to
work together for the candidates who will get party nomination and election
symbol ‘boat’,” he said.

The party president also alerted all that anyone will be expelled from the
party for lifetime if he or she opposes the AL nominated candidates.

AL Joint General Secretaries Dr Dipu Moni and Abdur Rahman, Organizing
Secretaries Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, Office
Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap and Deputy Office Secretary Barrister Biplab
Barua were present at the press conference, among others.
