Two police vehicles torched at Naya Paltan

DHAKA, Nov 14, 2018 (BSS) – Two vehicles of police were set ablaze and
several others were damaged during a series of clashes erupted between police
and BNP activists in the city’s Naya Paltan today.

The clashes took place at about 12.45 pm when BNP activists, without any
provocation, attacked policemen as they had tried to clear up the road to
ease traffic movement at Naya Paltan area, deputy commissioner (DC) of
Motijheel zone Anwar Hossain told reporters.

He said BNP leaders and activists with processions went to its Naya
Paltan central office for submitting nomination papers blocking both sides of
the road that halted the traffic movement and created huge traffic congestion
in the area.

Claiming that police tried to make the city road clear to resume traffic
movement, Anwar Hossain said: “As part of their plan, they (BNP men) attacked
police personnel, leaving 10 to 12 policemen injured. The angry BNP
supporters torched two vehicles of police and tried to set fire on another”.

“Despite the attack, police had tried to tackle the situation with
patience,” he said.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan will visit the injured police personnel at
Rajarbagh Police Hospital soon.
