Proper enforcement of consumers’ law stressed

RAJSHAHI, Nov 14, 2018 (BSS) – Enforcement of the Consumers Rights
Protection Law has become an urgent need for protecting the public health
from various non-communicable diseases.

Many people are being attacked with various deadly diseases like cancer,
liver cirrhosis, hepatitis and cardiac and kidney ailments through
consumption of adulterated foods and water.

So, there is no way but to resist manufacturing, possessing and selling of
contaminated foods including the fish meal and poultry feeds.

The observation came at a seminar titled “Consumer Rights Protection Law-
2009” held at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner Office in Rajshahi
city today.

District Administration and Department of National Consumers Rights
Protection (DNCRP) jointly organised the seminar.

Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi SM Abdul Kader and Superintendent of Police
Md Shahidullah addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively
with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Alamgir Kabir in the chair.

Editor of Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat, Vice-president of
Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industries Masudur Rahman, and development
activist Jahedul Islam also spoke on the occasion.

During his concept paper presentation, Apurba Adhikary, Assistant Director
of DNCRP, gave an overview of enforcement of the law along with its aspects.

The discussants viewed that the issue of the consumers’ rights is well
accepted throughout the world and in the free market economy.

So, awareness should be created among the businessmen and other concern.
Consumer rights protection refers to the laws and regulations that ensure
fair interaction between service providers and consumers.

SM Abdul Kader mentioned that the consumers’ rights in the developed
nations focus on the right to information, choice, redress and
representation, but we are deprived of such privileges.
