70th birth anniversary of Humayun Ahmed celebrated

DHAKA, Nov 13, 2018 (BSS) – Humayun Ahmed’s 70th birth anniversary was celebrated across the country today through various programmes.

A number of dramas and cinemas of Humayun were broadcasted on BTV and other private television channels marking the day.

The birthday celebration programme began through torching candle light at Nuhash Palli by his family members at 12:01 am today.

The celebration programme also included cutting cake and releasing pigeons.

In the morning, people from all strata, including the writer’s family members, two sons – Nishad and Ninat- and wife Meher Afroz Shaon, paid homage placing wreaths on his grave at Nuhash Palli in Gazipur. They also prayed for eternal peace of the eminent writer’s departed soul.

Moreover, 20 persons of ‘Gazipur Himu Paribahan’ came to Nuhash Palli with a bicycle procession from Gazipur city to pay their flowery tributes on the grave of the popular writer.

Besides, a seminar titled “Life and Society of Bangalee in Humayun’s Literature” was held at the Sufia Kamal auditorium of Dhaka National Museum with eminent novelist Selina Hossain in the chair.

With Cultural Affairs Secretary Md Nasir Uddin Ahmed as the chief guest, the seminar also addressed by cultural personality Ramendu Majumdar, actor Dr Ezaz Ahmed and Onno Prokash Publication’s owner Mazharul Islam.

Addressing the seminar, the cultural affairs secretary Nasir said, Humayun has created countless readers because his creations reflect various disparities of the society with simple language.

Writer Mum Rahman also presented the keynote paper in the seminar.
