Spontaneous tax payment for strengthening economy stressed

RANGPUR, Nov 13, 2018 (BSS) – The eligible citizens should spontaneously
pay income tax with a patriotic zeal to strengthen national economy for
accelerating progress to ultimately build a developed Bangladesh.

Officials and business leaders today viewed this at inaugural function
of a week-long Income Tax Fair- 2018 organised by Rangpur Zonal Tax
Commissioner’s Office at Zila Parishad Community Centre in the city.

Income tax officials are assisting eligible citizens in getting
information on income tax, registering or re-registering e-TIN numbers, e-TIN
certificates, calculating income taxes and filling out income tax return
forms at 13 stalls set up on fair premises.

With Tax Commissioner of Rangpur Zone Md Fazlur Rahman in the chair,
Additional Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Abu Sufian attended
the function as the chief guest.

Additional Divisional Commissioner of Customs and Excise and VAT
Commissionerate Abdul Mannan Sarder, President of Rangpur Women Chamber
Anwara Ferdousi Poly, President of Rangpur Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce
and Industry Rezaul Islam Milan and President of Rangpur Taxes Bar
Association Advocate Aminul Islam addressed as special guests.

Joint Commissioner of Taxes for Rangpur Zone Ashraful Islam delivered
welcome speech narrating goals of the fair and importance of tax payments in
strengthening national economy to further accelerate development.

Narrating importance of tax payment, Abdul Mannan Sarder called upon
eligible citizens to spontaneously pay income taxes in a hassle-free manner
by availing various facilities being provided by the government through the
NBR.

Mohammad Ashraful Islam said 5,616 taxpayers submitted income tax return
forms and paid Taka 23.11 crore taxes at income tax fair in 2017 while 7,520
taxpayers submitted return forms and paid Taka 26.23 crore in the fair here
in 2017. “An increasing number of taxpayers are visiting income tax fairs as
16,563 citizens took services in 2017 against 13,512 citizens in 2016 in
income tax fairs held in Rangpur zone,” he said.

“After realising Taka 640 crore as income taxes from Rangpur zone in
last 2016-2017 fiscal, we have fixed a target of collecting Taka 753 crore
income taxes during the current 2018-2119 fiscal in the zone,” Islam added.

The chief guest said the national economy would be strengthened to
remove dependence on foreign loans for conducting developments if all bigger,
medium and small- scale taxpayers paid their income taxes spontaneously.

He urged all eligible citizens to pay income taxes to accelerate
national development on way to build a middle income nation by 2021,
developing country by 2024 and ultimately, a developed Bangladesh by 2041.
