Mushfiqur nears double ton as Bangladesh tighten grip

DHAKA, Nov 12, 2018 (BSS/AFP) – Mushfiqur Rahim closed in on the second
double century of his career as Bangladesh built a commanding first innings
in the second Test against Zimbabwe in Dhaka on Monday.

Mushfiqur was batting on 195 to guide Bangladesh to 470 for seven at tea on
the second day. The hosts resumed the day’s play on 303-5.

Mehidy Hasan, on 40, was batting alongside Mushfiqur at the break.

The pair added 92 runs in their unbroken eighth wicket stand after Kyle
Jarvis took two wickets in the afternoon session to complete his third five-
wicket haul in Tests.

Jarvis, who claimed three wickets on the opening day, removed captain
Mahmudullah Riyad for 36 and then Ariful Haque for four.

Bangladesh began cautiously on day two, scoring just 22 runs in the first
hour before Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah finally opened up.

Mushfiqur, who now has six Test centuries, took 56 balls to score his first
boundary in the morning. The right-hander has hit 16 fours and a six so far
in his innings.

Zimbabwe suffered a blow when fast bowler Tendai Chatara was stretchered
off after damaging his hamstring while delivering a ball in the morning.

Zimbabwe Cricket tweeted that Chatara had suffered a suspected Grade 2 quad
muscle strain and was out of the match.

Zimbabwe won the opening Test by 151 runs in Sylhet and are looking for
their first series win in seven years in the second and final match.
