Graft case against Mirza Abbas to continue: HC

DHAKA, Nov 11, 2018 (BSS) – The High Court today rejected an appeal filed
by BNP leader Mirza Abbas to dismiss a graft case filed against him by the
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for allegedly amassing illegal wealth.

A bench of the High Court comprising Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and
Justice KM Hafizul Alam gave the order.

Khurshid Alam Khan represented the ACC during the hearing while Deputy
Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik stood for the state.

On the other hand, AJ Mohammad Mohammad Ali stood for the defence.

“The HC has rejected the petition. Now, there is no bar to start proceeding
with the trial,” said ACC prosecutor Khurshid Alam.

On August 16, 2007, the ACC filed the case against Mirza Abbas with Ramna
Police Station in the capital for allegedly accumulating illegal wealth worth
Tk 59,713,234 and concealing information about the wealth of Tk 3,348,581 in
his wealth statement earlier submitted to the national anti-graft agency.

The case is now pending before the Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-6.
