Mominul, Mushfiqur share record fourth-wicket stand

DHAKA, Nov 11, 2018 (BSS)- A record fourth wicket partnership between Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque rebuild Bangladesh’s dilapidated innings as the duo broke records on the way of 266-run stand picking up hundreds on the first day of the second Test against Zimbabwe on Sunday.

The Tigers’ failed to cross the 200-run mark in their last eight Test innings and came into the second Test against Zimbabwe desperately to tie the series.

Bangladesh suffered early batting jolt as they lost their three top orders batsmen inside 12 overs. However both Mominul and Mushfiqur rescued the hosts contributing 266-run fourth wicket stand, the Bangladesh’s highest fourth-wicket partnership in Test cricket, surpassing the previous record made by Mominul and Liton Das against Sri Lanka at Chittagong in January this year.

The partnership was also the second-highest partnership for any wicket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium after West Indies batsmen Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Dinesh Ramdin unbroken 296-run partnership against Bangladesh in 2012 was the highest record partnership in this ground.

The partnership was still the highest partnership between two Bangladeshi batsmen in this ground beating Tamim Iqbal and Zunaid Siddique’s previous 200-run partnership record against India backed in 2010.

Both Mominul and Mushfiqur Rahim also reached their highest individual scores at the ground. Mominul fell after a magnificent 161 but Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten at the end of play with a responsible knock of 111.

The partnership was also the fourth-highest partnership for the Tigers’ in Test cricket and missed the third-highest partnership narrowly between Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Ashraful from 2013 by just one run.
