Rajshahi realizes Tk 670.15cr income tax

RAJSHAHI, Nov 11, 2018 (BSS) – Rajshahi zone has realized income taxes
worth Taka 670.15 crore in last 2017-18 fiscal year up by Taka 82.70 crore
than the previous fiscal.

Of those, collection of taxes in June 2018 was Taka 145 core showing 14.10
percent growth of recovery. Number of taxpayers has been stood to 2,47,008 in
last financial year up by 27,834 than that of the previous fiscal in the zone
consisting with the districts of Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, Natore
and Pabna.

“National Board of Revenue (NBR) has set a target of realising taxes of
Taka 978 crore in the current 2018-19 fiscal in the zone and we are hopeful
about attaining the target by the end of this fiscal,” said Dr Khandakar
Ferdous Alam.

Dr Alam, Commissioner of Taxes in Rajshahi zone, revealed this while
addressing a press conference at his office conference room here today ahead
of the weeklong Income Tax Fair-2018 scheduled to be held from November 13 to
19.

He said the number of taxpayers is increasing gradually adding that the
growth rate is significant. To expand the tax network, various motivational
campaigns like spot assessment, survey and rewards for the taxpayers have
been introduced.

National Board of Revenue (NBR) will accord a reception to 42 highest and
long-term taxpayers here tomorrow (Monday) to mark the National Income Tax
Fair scheduled to be held from November 13 to 19.

“We got significant response from the taxpayers in the tax fairs,” Dr
Ferdous Alam said, adding that main thrust of the fair was to inspire the
taxpayers in paying more income tax spontaneously coupled with generating
more taxpayers.

Income taxes of over Taka 12 crore were collected in the last year’s week-
long tax fair. Around 49,356 taxpayers including 921 new ones received
services and 16,510 returns were submitted. The fair create enthusiasm among
the public about the tax payment and return submission.

Dr Alam said the year-round motivational programmes contributed in
creating public awareness about income taxes and boosting tax collection.

Joint Commissioner Ashique Rana and Deputy Commissioner Abu Nasar
