Posters, banners, campaign materials removed in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Nov 10, 2018 (BSS) – Posters, banners and all kinds of campaign
materials were removed from the electric poles and buildings’ walls and other
places of the town today at the initiative of Gaibandha Pourasabha.

According to sources the Election Commission (EC) in a circular asked the
political parties, the party men and the aspirant candidates to remove their
posters, banners, billboards, arches and illuminations within November 14 at
their own cost.

If anyone fails to comply with the directive, the EC will take stern
action against him or her for violating the electoral code of conduct, the
circular said.

Bringing out processions and staging showdowns are prohibited until the
candidates are allotted electoral symbols on November 30, the circular added.

The EC also directed the Mayors and the Union Parishad (UP) Chairmen under
the ministry of the local government to take necessary steps to remove
posters, banners and other campaign materials within November 14 midnight.

Accordingly, Mayor of Gaibandha Municipality sought cooperation of the
district administration and Zila police to conduct drives in the district
town aimed at removing the posters, banners and the campaign materials.

In response, district magistrate Sebastin Rema and police super Engineer
Abdul Mannan Miah enhanced their hands of cooperation to Mayor Advocate Shah
Masud Zahagir Kabir Milon and participated in the drives on Saturday.

District Election Officer Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar
Thana Khan M Shahriar and journalists accompanied the team during the drives.

Mayor of Gaibandha Pourasabha thanked the district magistrate and the
police super for participating in the drives and making it successful as
well.
