U.S. jobless claims drop

WASHINGTON, Nov. 9, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) – The number of U.S. initial jobless
claims decreased last week, suggesting the labor market remained tight,
according to a report released by the U.S. Labor Department on Thursday.

In the week ending Nov. 3, the number of people filing for unemployment
benefits decreased by 1,000 from the revised figure for the previous week to
214,000, said the report.

The figure for the previous week was revised up from 214,000 to 215,000.

The reading of initial jobless claims remained below the 300,000 threshold.
Any figure below the threshold suggests a strong labor market.

The report also showed that the four-week average of initial claims
decreased by 250 to 213,750; the figure for the previous week was revised up
from 213,750 to 214,000.
