Eight Ansar-Al-Islam men held at Pallabi

DHAKA, Nov 8, 2018 (BSS) – Police arrested eight operatives of the banned Islamist outfit Ansar-Al-Islam from the city Pallabi Thana area on Wednesday night.

The arrestees, Md Safwanur Rahman,34, Sultan Mahmud,25, Md Nazrul Islam,38, Md Abu Taher,36, Md Ilias Mridha,30, Md Ashraful Alam,24, Hasnain,30, and Md Kamrul, 28, have been operating a NGO (non-government organization) Small Kindness Bangladesh (SKB) at Pallabi area.

A squad of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) arrested the eight from the NGO office at house no-644, road no-9 of Mirpur DOHS under Pallabi Police Station around on Wednesday night, said a police official.

They also recovered over Taka 14 lakh in cash, one laptop, eight CPU (computer processing unit), eight cheque books of different banks and 10 mobile phone sets from their possessions, he also said.

During preliminary interrogation they confessed their link to Pakistan based organization Al Khidmat Foundation through which they were conducting militant activities in the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar, the police official claimed.

Quoting the militants as saying, he also said that the arrestees has a plan to detabilise the government and undermining the country’s image with conducting large scale militant activities.

Legal action was taken against the arrestees to this end.
