Hsnif rules out possibility of delaying election schedule

KUSHTIA, Nov 07, 2018 (BSS) – Joint General Secretary of the Awami League (AL) Mahbubul Alam Hanif today ruled out the possibility of delaying the election schedule for the forthcoming Jatiya Sangsad polls, saying there is no scope for shifting both the schedule and date of the parliament election.

The senior AL leader said this while replying to a query made by a journalist following his view-exchange meeting with the party leaders at his own residence here this afternoon.

“As per the constitution, there is no possibility of delaying both the schedule and election date,” he said.

Hanif said that the tenure of the parliament will expire on January 26 in 2019 and as per the constitution the election must be held within 90 days before expiry of the parliament.

On the opposition’s threat of anti-government movement, the AL leader said “None will join movements for those who have been sentenced by the court on charges of corruption.”

The BNP, Hanif said, had perpetrated movements for the last five years but those turned into futile efforts. Even BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia once had announced to hold movement after the Eid, but she couldn’t organize the movement following her announcement, he added.

Khustia District Council Chairman Hazi Rabiul Islam, District AL President Sadar Uddin Khan, City AL President Taijal Ali Khan, City AL General Secretary Ataur Rahman, among others, attended the meeting.
