DHAKA, Nov 6, 2018 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today formed a five-member
committee to examine the water supplied by Dhaka WASA here in the capital
through pipeline.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md
Khairul Alam formed the committee with one representative from Ministry of
LGRD and Cooperatives, icddr’b, Bureau of Research Testing and Consultation,
Faculty of Pharmacy and Department of Microbiology of University of Dhaka
each.
“Water supplied by WASA across the country is not safe for drinking. There
are different hazardous materials including bacteria in this water. The World
Bank also published a report in this regard and different dailies carried out
report based on that report. A writ was filed on Octobe4 14 in this regard,”
advocate Tanvir Ahmed, who moved the plea, told newsmen.
The High Court asked the committee to submit its test report within next
two months. The court also issued a rule asking authorities concerned to
reply as to why it shall not declare illegal the negligence and inaction of
Dhaka WASA in supplying safe drinking water.
