15,000 people to be trained up on disaster management

DHAKA, Nov 05, 2018 (BSS) – The government has set a target of imparting training on sustainable disaster management to 15,000 people across the country in the current year.

The information was revealed at the concluding and certificate-giving ceremony of a three-day ‘Training of Trainers on Sustainable Disaster Management’ course at the Disaster Management Department in the city, said an official release here today.

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury (Maya) addressed the function as the chief guest with the ministry’s Secretary Md Shah Kamal in the chair, the release added.

Addressing the function, Maya said the aim of the government is to build a disaster-resilient nation by giving trainings, creating public awareness and ensuring adequate preparedness on the disasters.

He urged the trainees to work sincerely to train up the people properly for attaining the government’s goal.

UN Residential Coordinator in Dhaka Mia Seppo and Disaster Management Department Director General Abu Syed Mohammad Hashim addressed the function, among others.

Through the training course a total of 30 top officials of the Disaster Management Department were trained up to give trainings on the disaster management to 15,000 people, particularly to the disaster management committee members, at district, upazila and union levels across the country by this year.

Earlier, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Md Nojibur Rahman inaugurated the training course for the top officials of the Disaster Management Department on November 3 with the Secretary of Disaster Management and Relief Ministry Md Shah Kamal in the chair.

In the last year, 20,505 people were given training on disaster management.
